Landscape character and visual impact assessment to address a proposed rail noise abatement wall varying in height and up to 5 metres in some locations along the railway line in the Muswellbrook Town Centre. Potential impacts are due to the proximity to and the visibility of the noise wall. A range of viewers could be impacted due to the range of adjoining and surrounding land uses such as residences, businesses and community and open space facilities.

 

Urban design solutions are identified to reduce the visual impact of the noise walls including landscape treatments, reshaping of the walls and the incorporation of the wall for interactive play and art work.
