Hawkesbury River Home
The site constrained by its water only access, limited utility services and bushfire threat, called for a unique design approach. The dwelling is constructed from lightweight and durable fire resistant steel and timbers, brought to site by barge. It features a large open plan living area opening onto the south facing balcony with absolute waterfront views. A north facing clerestory captures the winter sun and ventilates the building in summer.
The building takes a modest form with a simple paired back material and colour palette. The simple roof and clean facade detailing allows the building to recede into the landscape, whilst carefully placed openings allowing its inhabitants to experience the beauty of the site and its location with minimal overlooking or view sharing with their neighbours.
